Team USA Begins Bid to Retain Cup

Team USA began its campaign to retain the Quaich with a mandatory team practice called by Captain John “Atco” Atkins at the team’s Palm Beach Gardens, Florida base. This get-together was a celebration of sorts for Team USA, whose victory in Scotland last year has been called the greatest comeback in the history of the sports.

The golf media was invited to join the team on an evening cocktail cruise on Florida’s Intercoastal Waterway. On board, the team enjoyed top-shelf liquor and sweet, buttery Florida stone crab legs --- Atco’s favorite crustacean.

"Let me tell you something," said Ray "Mundo" Bonilla. "Florida in March is a helluva lot easier on my joints than Scotland in June!"

"This vessel has 480 horsepower," said Eric "Swayze" Silagy, who was at the helm of the Hickley yacht. "She can get to 38 knots with only 2 foot of draft. Cruising displacement is 25 thousand pounds."

“We here to pass a good time,” said Atco as the boat motored by the Jupiter Inlet lighthouse. “But we’ll also put in the work to prepare for 2026.”

Team USA played three practice rounds at Medalist Golf Club, where several PGA Tour pros go to prepare for major championships. Atco had plenty of opportunity to evaluate the talent he’ll have to work with next year. “With the exception of Web’s proclivity for losing golf balls,” said Atco. “I like what I see.”

When asked about the venue for Quaich 2026, Atco was predictably quiet. “We’ll be announcing something soon,” said Atco. “No one is going to be disappointed.”

Quaich fans everywhere are standing by anxiously for details about the much-anticipated 2026 re-match.
